Dellas signs 2-year deal with former club AEK
AS Roma’s Greek international defender Traianos Dellas has signed a two-year contract with AEK Athens, the Greek first-division club said late Monday night. The 31-year-old Dellas, who has played 26 times for Greece, had one of his best moments in soccer when he scored the winning goal against the Czech Republic in the semifinals of Euro 2004, eventually won by Greece. Moreover, his role on defense stood as a key contribution to the national team’s sensational triumph in Portugal. The transfer fee for his move to AEK was not disclosed. Dellas played at Aris and Sheffield United before his first stint at AEK in the 2000-01 season. He then played in Italy for Perugia and Roma. The towering defender spent the pre-season summer period training with AEK to maintain fitness while scouting the transfer market for a new club abroad. (AFP, AP, Kathimerini)
