Denmon leads Panathinaikos to a record 17th straight win
Marcus Denmon made seven out of eight triples for a total of 25 points, as Panathinaikos scored its 17th win in as many games in the Basket League downing Promitheas at Patra on Sunday.
The Greens shook off their overtime loss to Olympiakos for the Euroleague 48 hours earlier to preserve their perfect record with an 108-91 triumph at high-flying Promitheas. This 17-game winning streak is the best start to the season for Panathinaikos in the league’s history.
Olympiakos beat Aris 86-66 on Monday to stay four points off the pace, having lost all hope of making the top spot in the regular season. Giorgos Printezis became the club’s top scorer in the Basket League with 2,913 points, exceeding the record of Milan Tomic by just two points.
Lavrio and AEK remained tied in third: Lavrio defeated Rethymno 78-77 in a very tight game, while AEK paraded the trophy of the Greek Cup before its fans ahead of defeating Kolossos Rhodes 95-79.
Panionios scored a precious home win over Korivos Amaliadas with a 70-59 score to move off the bottom of the table, where Trikala is rooted after its 58-54 loss at PAOK.
Panionios will try to catch Gymnastikos/Faros Larissas that is one point above the Nea Smyrni team, after suffering a home reverse to Kymi (91-80) on Saturday. Kymi has now moved into the top eight spots that lead to the play-offs.
