Lavrio and Promitheas score outstanding wins
The triumph of Lavrio over AEK, the mauling of Aris by Promitheas and the return of Vassilis Spanoulis stood out in the weekend’s action at the Basket League.
Promitheas Patron and Lavrio are the two teams to have flown unexpectedly high so far this season, and produced famous results this weekend: Promitheas held Aris to just 11 points in the second half to win 70-40 at home on Saturday and stay joint second at the table, while Lavrio is alone in fourth after beating AEK for the first time in its history, with an 80-72 score on Sunday.
Panathinaikos extended its perfect record to seven out of seven with an easy 87-56 win in Athens over Trikala on Sunday, and second-placed Olympiakos welcomed back its captain Spanoulis from injury in its 97-76 victory against Korivos Amaliadas.
PAOK continued its rising course to join AEK at the fifth spot after beating Kolossos Rhodes 70-56 at home. It was PAOK’s third win in a row.
Rethymno scored a memorable 89-70 win at Gymnastikos Larissas Faros, but the overtime victory of Kymi at Panionios with a 92-91 score (behind closed doors) will go down in the record books as it was not only Kymi’s first win this season but also its first ever away win in its short history in the Basket League.
