Vassilopoulos gifts Aris its first away win
A buzzer-beating triple by experienced Panayiotis Vassilopoulos gave Aris an away win at Lavrio in the weekend’s most exciting game in the Basket League, as Panathinaikos and Promitheas extended their perfect record.
Lavrio led for most of its home game against the Thessaloniki powerhouse on Saturday, but with two seconds left on the clock Vassilopoulos turned a 70-68 deficit into a 71-70 triumph for Aris, its first away from home this season.
Panathinaikos strolled to an 89-52 victory at Gymnastikos/Faros Larissas on Sunday, to rejoin Promitheas on top. On Saturday the Patra team had made it three out of three, edging out Panionios 87-80 at Nea Smyrni.
Trikala challenged Olympiakos for the first 23 minutes in Piraeus on Sunday, but when the Reds took it seriously they thrashed their visitors 86-51.
PAOK scored its first win of the season, following five defeats in all competitions, as it saw off visiting Kymi 94-83 on Saturday.
Korivos Amaliadas inflicted the first loss of Kolossos Rhodes winning 79-76 in a very exciting match in western Peloponnese, while AEK held on to beat ambitious Rethymno 81-74 in Athens.
