Aris comes from behind to beat AEK in Basket League

Just three teams (Panathinaikos, Kolossos and Promitheas Patras) have made it two out of two in the Basket League this weekend, but the win of this round belongs to Aris that came from behind to beat AEK by two in Thessaloniki on Saturday.

AEK led by up to 10 points in the first half (34-24), but a great comeback by the hosts at the Nick Galis Hall saw them advance by five (62-57) and win the match 64-62 for their first league win under coach Panayiotis Giannakis.

Panathinaikos recovered from its 27-point drubbing at Barcelona for the Euroleague to beat visiting PAOK 89-74 at home on Sunday, thanks to a partial 29-11 in the third quarter. PAOK has four defeats in as many games in all competitions to date this season.

Also on Sunday Olympiakos had no problems against Kymi at Halkida, winning 85-56 for its first league win after the home loss at the Derby of the Eternal Rivals a week earlier.

Kolossos Rhodes dismissed a problematic Panionios 90-70 at Nea Smyrni, leading to the sacking of Panionios coach Giorgos Kalafatakis.

Promitheas saw off Faros Larissas 91-80 in Patra and is already looking good for a play-off spot. Korivos Amaliadas pushed host Rethymno all the way, but the Cretan Kings eventually won 95-90.

ShawnDre Jones scored 32 points to lead Trikala to a 91-79 home win over Lavrio on Saturday. He is now joint top scorer in the league with Lavrio’s Malcolm Griffin.
