Soccer clubs appeal ruling

The Greek Soccer Federation’s (EPO) appeals council will discuss on Monday the challenges lodged by AEK Athens and Thessaloniki club PAOK to punishments received over violence at last month’s Greek Cup final in Volos, central Greece.

Dozens were injured in the clashes at the Panthessaliko Stadium between the supporters of the two clubs and riot police.

PAOK, who won the match 2-1, was initially penalized with a reduction of six points and ordered to play seven matches next season behind closed doors. AEK will also play three games in front of empty stands.

PAOK was also slapped with a fine of 282,500 euros, while AEK will have to pay 170,000 euros.
