AEK avenges Cup loss beating PAOK away
The Super League play-offs got underway on Sunday with AEK avenging its defeat at the Cup Final beating PAOK 1-0 away, while 10-man Panathinaikos snatched a 1-1 draw at Panionios.
The start of the play-off mini-league, that will determine Greece’s second representative in the Champions League qualifiers after Olympiakos, produced two quite entertaining games helping fans leave behind the ugly memories from the Cup Final eight days earlier.
AEK won at Toumba to take an early lead at the standings after a solid performance peaking at a great team effort that saw Didac Vila break free into the PAOK box to score after just 10 minutes.
Panathinaikos was reduced to 10 men from the 12th minute at Nea Smyrni due to a straight red to Zeca, but got a first-half lead via the league’s top scorer Marcus Berg. Giorgos Massouras equalized for Panionios 11 minutes into the second half.
AEK is on three points, PAOK and Panathinaikos have two, and Panionios is on one.
The play-offs continue on Wednesday with AEK hosting Panionios and PAOK visiting Panathinaikos.
