Sports Digest: Marinakis speaks of ’10 Nottinghams’
SOCCER: In a statement that will not go down well with English Championship club Nottingham Forest’s supporters, Olympiakos owner Vangelis Marinakis assured the Olympiakos fans on Sunday – upon celebrating his team’s seventh consecutive league title in Greece – that “even if I buy 10 Nottinghams, Olympiakos is above everything. There will soon be an announcement. Olympiakos will benefit from this deal.”
BASKETBALL: The Euroleague has slapped Olympiakos with a one-game stadium ban plus a fine for the behavior of its fans in Game 5 of the play-offs against Anadolu Efes on May 2. The semifinal against CSKA Moscow is on Friday May 19 in Istanbul.
SOCCER: Eight fans of AEK and PAOK are identified to have participated in the violent clashes before the Greek Cup Final on Saturday and are due to face trial.
