Panathinaikos enters Ouzounidis era with win over PAOK
Olympiakos stretched its lead to seven points on Sunday, pending high-flying PAS Giannina’s game on Monday at Iraklis, while AEK dropped two more points on Saturday in a Super League round of games with beautiful goals but particularly few fans at the stands.
However the match of the weekend was the Panathinaikos vs PAOK clash in Athens, where the Greens won 1-0 in their first match with Marinos Ouzounidis on their bench.
In a quiet Apostolos Nikolaidis due to the boycott by its hardcore fans (after the poor string of results in November), Panathinaikos had Robin Lod score from a distance on the 69th minute and climb to second at the table.
Brown Ideye scored with a bicycle kick (though from an offside position) to open the score in Olympiakos’s 4-0 home win over Levadiakos. The other goals came from Luka Milivojevic and Costas Fortounis before Ideye put the icing on the cake, all within five minutes in the second half.
AEK drew 1-1 at Kerkyra as the Vassilis Lambropoulos goal was canceled out by Thuram. The Yellows languish in fifth, nine points from the top.
They were overtaken by Atromitos that scored a second straight away win, after beating PAOK on Monday, as it saw off Larissa 2-1. Up and coming Xanthi is level on points with AEK thanks to its 3-1 triumph over visiting Asteras Tripolis.
In other games there were 1-1 draws for Platanias against Panionios and for Veria against Panetolikos.
