Reds outclass the Greens in the first of many derbies

Olympiakos confirmed it is a class above archrival Panathinaikos at this stage of the season, thrashing the Greens 88-63 on Monday in the first clash of the eternal rivals for the Basket League this season.

In its first game away from home Panathinaikos showed it is nowhere near the level it ought to be to face champion Olympiakos, who was on fire at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus.

Captain Vassilis Spanoulis may have not scored any field goals on the night, but his assists fed Giorgos Printezis (18 points), Matt Lojeski (15) and Patrick Young (14), who between them scored more than half of Olympiakos’s points.

Olympiakos and Panathinaikos are expected to meet at least seven times this season in all competitions, up to a maximum of 15 times.

Also on Monday Kymi scored its maiden victory in the top flight, dismissing visiting Korivos Amaliadas 93-70, two days after Promitheas Patron also scored a historic first ever win in the A1, over fellow promoted Doxa Lefkadas.
