Good start for Greek hoopsters on the way to Rio
Greece had a very positive start to the Olympic qualification tournament taking place in Italy, beating Iran 78-53 on Monday.
The national basketball team aspires to return to the Olympics after missing out on London 2012, and showed it has the capacity to overcome host Italy and Croatia, that are in the same qualification tournament which offers just one ticket to Rio 2016.
On Monday Iran proved it was no match for the impressive Greek side that on its first game showed great depth in its roster, led by Milwaukee Bucks star Yiannis Antetokounmpo (16 points). He was followed on the scorers’ chart by Stratos Perperoglou (12 points) and Yiannis Bourousis (11 points).
Greece’s next opponent is Mexico on Wednesday, before it meets one of Croatia and Italy in the tournament’s semifinal.
