Ten-man PAOK snatches draw at Panathinaikos

With the Greek Cup final scheduled at last for Tuesday, May 17, there was only one play-off game that took place on Sunday, in which Panathinaikos drew 1-1 in Athens with 10-man PAOK.

The Greens wasted the chance to score their first win this season over one of the top-five teams in the league this season, with PAOK having Alexandros Tziolis sent off from the 20th minute of the game with a straight red card.

Marcus Berg scored a great goal shooting from a distance two minutes into the second half to give the hosts the lead, but Charis Charisis responded for PAOK within a couple of minutes through an even more spectacular strike from outside the area for 1-1.

This result means Panathinaikos and PAOK remained tied at the top of the mini-league, on four points. AEK has two points and Panionios one, both with a game in hand.

On Monday the Super League’s governing board will convene to decide when the postponed match of AEK vs Panionios will take place, as well as about the third round of the play-offs, scheduled for Wednesday, the day after the Olympiakos vs AEK Cup final. While the Panathinaikos vs AEK match will definitely get postponed, the Panionios vs PAOK game may well be held on Wednesday.
