Laboral sweeps Panathinaikos in Euroleague

Panathinaikos crashed out of the Euroleague on Tuesday as Laboral Kutxa swept the Greek Cup holders with a 3-0 score in the best-of-five play-offs after an 84-75 victory in Athens.

Despite playing in front of a capacity crowd of home fans at the Olympic Sports Hall, Panathinaikos had the same problems in defense that condemned it to defeat in Game 1 of the series in Spain.

The Basques often scored at will, particularly from a distance, and led by 10 in the first half (38-28) before Panathinaikos fought back to edge ahead 57-56, but that was the best it could do on the night against a clearly superior team.

Miroslav Raduljica was the top scorer for Panathinaikos with 13 points.

The stands shook at the standing ovation for Panathinaikos captain Dimitris Diamantidis in his farewell from the Euroleague as his illustrious career is coming to an end this summer.
