Papachristou leaps to bronze in Portland

Voula Papachristou earned Greece’s second medal at the World Indoor Track & Field Championships in Portland, US, finishing third at the triple-jump final on Saturday.

She measured 14.15 meters in the only attempt of hers that counted in the final, that was 26 centimeters behind that of the winner, Yulimar Rojas of Cuba.

Papachristou added her medal to the other bronze that Katerina Stefanidi had earned two days earlier in pole vault.

Papachristou had been forced to withdraw from the 2012 Olympics in London due to a racist tweet that she later apologized for.

Another Greek champion, Costas Baniotis also had a good performance in Portland as he finished fifth in the men’s high jump. He cleared 2.29 meters.
