Cup shocks for Panetolikos and Xanthi
Xanthi and Panetolikos suffered Greek Cup upsets at the hands of minor opposition this week that have cost them their future in the competition, while most big clubs produced a show of force.
Larissa got the better of Xanthi beating the Super League club 1-0 on Wednesday to become the first team from the second division to go through from the group stage, while Panetolikos went down 3-2 at second-division Ergotelis on Thursday and is mathematically eliminated from the Cup.
Olympiakos dismissed Panaigialios 4-0 away on Wednesday and is on the verge of qualifying, while AEK and Panathinaikos have already done that as the former downed Panelefsiniakos 6-0 at home and the latter saw off Panachaiki 2-1 away on Thursday.
Asteras Tripolis braved the very poor pitch conditions on Crete and defeated Kissamikos 3-1, while PAOK visited Kissamikos’s neighbor Hania and won 6-2.
