Solid Euroleague win for the Reds, bad loss for the Greens
Olympiakos outplayed Limoges in the second half and made it three wins in four Euroleague matches on Thursday, but Panathinaikos suffered its third defeat on the road going down to hitherto winless Zielona Gora in Poland on Friday.
The Reds were troubled in the first half by their French visitors at the Peace and Friendship Stadium, but after the first few minutes in the second half they improved both in defense and in attack and claimed victory in easy fashion with a 75-49 result enjoying a partial 29-7 score in last part of the game.
Five Olympiakos players reached double figures in scoring, led by Giorgos Printezis with 15.
Panathinaikos let its fans down for a third consecutive trip abroad, going down 71-68 at unfancied Zielona Gora. The Greeks trailed their host for virtually the entire game and tried to steal it in the end – or at least take it to overtime, but their attack had a miserable night.
In the absence of James Gist, Panathinaikos appeared second-class, with only James Feldeine trying to make amends scoring 15 points on the night.
In the Eurocup on Wednesday AEK came from 17 points down to beat Hapoel Jerusalem 75-74 at home, Aris defeated Steaua 70-66 in Thessaloniki and PAOK lost 90-68 at Avtodor Saratov in Russia.
