Olympiakos strolls past Korivos Amaliadas
Olympiakos completed the Basket League’s semifinal line-up on Saturday after sweeping Korivos Amaliadas with a 2-0 score in the best-of-three quarterfinals.
After winning 91-52 in Game 1 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus on Thursday, the Reds produced an emphatic performance from the start of Game 2 at Amaliada to win 91-59 and become the only team to reach the last four of the league play-offs with a sweep.
While Olympiakos has obviously shaken off the defeat at the Euroleague final six days earlier, as the play-off finals loom, Korivos concluded the club’s most successful season as it managed to sneak into the play-offs in its first ever season in the top flight.
In the semis Olympiakos will have home advantage in its best-of-five clash with Aris that starts on Wednesday in Piraeus. A day earlier will see Game 1 of the other semifinal series between Panathinaikos and PAOK in Athens.
Meanwhile Panathinaikos announced that the coach of Kolossos Rhodes, Aris Lykoyiannis is hired to join the Greens’ coaching staff. It follows last year’s hiring of the then Kolossos coach Dimitris Priftis as an assistant to caretaker Frangiskos Alvertis. They went on to win the league title against the odds.
This year Lykoyiannis will be assisting caretaking coach Sotiris Manolopoulos, after managing to lead Kolossos to a home victory over Panathinaikos in Game 2 of the quarterfinals.
