Historic gold for Greece at European Aquatic Championships

Greece has secured its first gold medal in a team free artistic swimming competition in the European Aquatic Championships, which are taking place in Belgrade.

The national team took first place in the team free final, with a score of 270.1980, 15.5 points ahead of Italy (254.7354), the UK and Turkey, the only other competitors in the event.

Before the Belgrade championships, Greece had won silver five times and bronze six times in the sport.

The Greek team competed with one change compared to the qualifier, as Artemi Koutraki took the place of Ifigenia Krommydakis and was flanked by Maria Alzigouzi-Kominea, Thalia Dambali, Athena Kamarinopoulou, Zoi Karangelou, Maria Karapanagiotou, Sofia Rigakou and Vasiliki Thanou.
