Reds win season’s first trophy
Olympiakos beats Panathinaikos in final to win the Super Cup on Rhodes
Olympiakos easily won its first Super Cup in men’s basketball after dismissing Panathinaikos 67-52 in the final that took place on Sunday on Rhodes.
The Eternal Rivals faced off for one more trophy and Olympiakos was clearly better prepared for this tournament.
Panathinaikos had huge problems in offense and in rebounds, while Olympiakos ruled the air and deservedly built an unassailable lead from the third period, after a 37-34 result in its favor at half-time.
The Reds had Sasha Vezenkov and Moustapha Fall score 12 points apiece. Paris Lee also made 12 for Panathinaikos.
Champion Olympiakos is therefore emerging as the favorite to retain the league title with the championship starting a week later.
In Saturday’s semifinals Panathinaikos had beaten host Kolossos Rhodes 72-67 and Olympiakos had thrashed Promitheas Patras 93-65.
On Sunday Promitheas dismissed Kolossos 95-71 to earn the third spot in the mini tournament.
