Weightlifting junior next big thing?
Competing at the World Weightlifting Championships in Warsaw, junior athlete Haris Hadzidis, 17, broke seven national junior records to signal that he may be the medal-raking senior team’s next big star. Registered in the men’s 56-kilogram category, Hadzidis lifted 107.5 kilos in the snatch and 135 in the clean-and-jerk for 242.5 kilos overall. He ended seventh overall in the clean-and-jerk, and eighth in the snatch. «Haris has been with the team a mere seven months,» noted Christos Iakovidou, the national team’s head coach. «He has 10 to 12 years ahead of him and, if he continues this way, can achieve plenty.»
