Legendary Greek benefactor’s wardrobe on sale for charity
Wearable mementos from a life fully lived in Athens and New York, via London and Gstaad, among other locations, are going on sale in the Greek capital this week.
Garments from the private collection of Greek benefactor Maria “Doda” Voridis-Goulandris will be on display and available for purchase at a Hellenic Society for Disabled Children (ELEPAP) bazaar which takes place on Friday, November 25, and Saturday, November 26.
The two-day bazaar was made possible thanks to the generous donations of her two sons, New York-based Aristidis and Petros Embiricos.
At the ELEPAP headquarters, organizers have created a boutique setting with a boudoir feel, featuring mirrors, for instance, to host plenty of evening wear as well as day wear ranging from knits to suit separates – pieces reflecting her personal style.
Going on sale are about 60 to 70 dresses and silk kaftans. These include pieces from New York-based fashion houses Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera and French fashion powerhouse Yves Saint Laurent, among others. Also going on sale are knits by American specialists St John and a large collection of shoes. According to the organizers, some garments still have their tags on.
A fervent supporter of good causes, Voridis-Goulandris was known for her involvement in non-profit Venetian Heritage Inc., whose mission is to safeguard Venetian cultural heritage and of which she was a founding board member, as well as her assistance to several Greek cultural organizations.
Meanwhile, the Hellenic Society for Disable Children charity was founded in 1937. The Greek organization assists over 1,200 disabled children across Greece, as well as newborns and adults suffering from cerebral injuries. Proceeds from the bazaar will go toward supporting the charity’s programs for the rehabilitation of disabled children and adults.
At ELEPAP, doors for the Doda Voridis-Goulandris sale open on both days from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
