PM urges for de-escalation amid rising Middle East tensions
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called for de-escalation in the Middle East as tensions continue to rise. In his weekly government update, he stated that Greece remains “on high alert at all levels.”
“Undoubtedly, what marked this week was the serious escalation in the Middle East and the increase in threats to regional stability and security,” Mitsotakis said. “The situation in Lebanon has significantly deteriorated, and we have witnessed a major attack by Iran against Israel, an attack that Greece condemns in the strongest possible terms.”
He reaffirmed Greece’s support for Israel and its right to live safely, a right that was severely compromised one year ago by a Hamas attack that killed hundreds of Israeli citizens.
Mitsotakis also expressed condolences for Ionas Karussis, a Greek-Israeli national, who was killed Tuesday in a terrorist attack in Jaffa, Tel Aviv.
