Bonuses, stricter hiring rules in new civil service plan

The Interior Ministry has put two pieces of legislation to public consultation that, among other provisions, seek to boost efficiency in the civil service by introducing bonuses for state departments which achieve annual targets that have been outlined in the relevant online platform.

In order to curb the common practice of new hires requesting transfers closer to home, meanwhile, people seeking a job via the Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection (ASEP) will be scored in terms of their geographical location vis-a-vis the demands of the position. And candidates applying for jobs indiscriminately and bogging down an already belabored system will be discouraged from doing so by having to wait three years to compete for another.

Moreover, people with debts to a municipal authority dating before August 31, 2024, can have almost all the accrued fines and penalties written off by paying them off in one lump sum.

On a more general note, the new legislation increases the fines for violations of public space usage limits threefold in a bid to crack down on sprawling cafe, bar and restaurant seating.
