Socialist PASOK party celebrates 50th anniversary

PASOK will celebrate on Tuesday the 50th anniversary since the foundation of the socialist party with an event in central Athens.

Party leader Nikos Androulakis will speak at the event, followed by a concert, a tribute to the music composer Yiannis Markopoulos, who passed away a year ago and whose work was identified with the fight against the junta and the era after the restoration of democracy.

Former presidents of PASOK who also served as prime ministers, Costas Simitis and George Papandreou, as well as former party leader Evangelos Venizelos, will address the event, while the event will also honor the founding members who signed the declaration of September 3, 1974.

The event will be held at 7.30 p.m. at the Zappeion.

PASOK was founded by Andreas Papandreou, a Greek economist, politician, and dominant figure in Greek politics, who led the party from 1974 to 1996. He served three terms as the 3rd and 8th prime minister of Greece.
