Prosecutor summons two more suspects to testify in wiretapping scandal

Two more suspects in the wiretapping scandal that targeted politicians, businessmen and media figures have been called to testify before a Supreme Court prosecutor.

According to sources, Achilleas Zisis, a deputy prosecutor at the court, summoned the individuals on suspicion of violating laws on telephone privacy and personal data.

The two suspects, whose identities have not been revealed, are expected to testify next week.

On Tuesday, Grigoris Dimitriadis, former general secretary and nephew of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, testified for two hours before a Supreme Court prosecutor on Tuesday over the scandal.

It is believed that Zisis will summon other suspects to testify as his investigation enters its final stage. He will then draw up a conclusion, which he will submit for final judgment to Supreme Court Prosecutor Georgia Adelini.

According to sources, Zisis has already received statements from 40 witnesses, while he has received replies to all requests for judicial assistance that the prosecution authorities had sent to foreign authorities in relation to the case.

The scandal became public in summer 2022 when journalist Thanasis Koukakis revealed that his phone had been intercepted with the use of malicious spyware Predator and by Greece’s National Intelligence Service (EYP).

Since then, it has been revealed that targets included PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis.

The government has denied using illegal spyware.
