The last chance for Olympic

Excess is the main characteristic of all the strikes that take place in this country, but the Olympic Airlines unionists have taken things further than anyone before them. Their sit-in protest on the runway at Athens International Airport yesterday not only delayed flights but had major knock-on effects on flight security and the airport’s credibility. No union claims should be at the expense of innocent bystanders – in this case, yesterday’s airline passengers. The unionists were right not to continue with their strikes at the beleaguered national carrier. They know that the public is aware of the huge responsibility they bear for the company’s bankruptcy and they did not want to further incur people’s wrath. By the same token, they should not gamble with people’s safety, nor should they be staging sit-ins at offices, which also cause problems for passengers. The appropriate solution for the company has been put in motion. The airline’s staff should not sabotage it, as it is the last chance to save Olympic.
