EOKA STRUGGLE: Nicosia, 17 – According to unconfirmed reports this evening, another confrontation and battle have taken place between British security forces and men of the National Cypriot Fighters’ Organization (EOKA) in the village of Lapithos, Kyrena, 15 miles northwest of Nicosia. At least two EOKA men are reported to have been injured and taken prisoner. The report, from a British source, has not yet confirmed any losses among the security forces. It is clear that the British raid took place after a tip-off. The village was surrounded by British patrols who fought house-to-house battles. A curfew was enforced and a helicopter flew over the village calling for EOKA men to give themselves up. According to another source, British troops blockaded the villages of Ano and Kato Zodia, looking for EOKA fighters. Today EOKA continued its operations, sending men to raid military stores in Famagusta, pouring petrol on the goods and setting them alight. The fire was one of the biggest seen in the town, and caused major damage. Meanwhile, the British are continuing to make arrests among the Greek-Cypriot population. Two members of EOKA were injured and arrested by the British this morning near the village of Kornos, south of Nicosia.
