FLOODING AFTERMATH: Flooding that resulted after yesterday’s deluge of rainfall in Athens and the surrounding area has affected a total of 500 basements and ground-floor shops and homes, with 250 of them sustaining serious water damage. The waters of the Kifissos River flooded the home of Maria Zophea in Nea Philadelphia, near Aghioi Anargyroi, sweeping away two goats, 40 fowl as well as her household goods and clothing. The fire service’s 10 engines continued pumping water from flooded basements until late last night. During the downpour, the capital’s urban train line was covered in floodwater at Aghios Nikolaos. Passengers were only taken as far as Plateia Attikis. EXPLOSION AT CYPRIOT MONASTERY: Greek Cypriots have attributed the explosion of a bomb early this morning in the garden of the Kykkos Monastery, outside Nicosia, to the «secret British organization AKOE» (the «Anti-Killers Organization of Expatriates»). The bomb caused no injuries nor damage to property. Over the past month, AKOE has distributed several pamphlets attacking the National Cypriot Fighters’ Organization (EOKA).
