CYPRUS: Greek Cypriots have attributed the explosion of a bomb early this morning in the garden of the Kykkos Monastery, outside Nicosia, to the «secret British organization AKOE» (the «Anti-Killers Organization of Expatriates»). The bomb caused no injuries nor damage to property. Over the past month, AKOE has distributed several pamphlets attacking the National Cypriot Fighters’ Organization (EOKA). Greek Cypriots have said that the letters sent by AKOE were found daubed on the walls of the monastery about 20 yards from the site of the explosion, just half a mile from the government house that had been thoroughly searched last Saturday. Today’s explosion follows the distribution of a proclamation two days ago, written in English and signed «Cromwell,» calling for reprisals against EOKA and announcing the establishment of British groups sworn to avenge any attacks by EOKA. It was not clear whether there was any connection between Cromwell and AKOE. DEMOCRATIC UNION: The founding meeting of the parliamentary deputies belonging to the Democratic Union party was held yesterday. Twelve deputies took part, all elected as independents affiliated with the United Democratic Left (EDA).
