TOWARD EUROPEAN UNITY: At the initiative of a group of Athens University students, the «Academic Association for European Cooperation» has been set up to promote the idea of European unity by studying the various intellectual, moral, social and political problems, the resolution of which depends to a great extent on cooperation between nations. PROVOCATION: Paris – According to a telegram from New York, the Greek delegate, Mr Alexis Kyrou, in a letter to the UN secretary-general, confirmed that on January 4 Bulgarian soldiers crossed the border into Greece and kidnapped three local village guards. The Greek delegate asked the UN to assist in having the men returned. MOBILIZATION: Rome – The Italian Communist Party this evening organized a gathering to call for a stay of execution of Greek communists who have been sentenced to death. In an open letter to (Deputy Prime Minister) Sophocles Venizelos, in Rome representing the Greek government, they condemned what they said was fascist terrorism in Greece. Those present at the gathering tried to organize a demonstration at the Greek Embassy in Rome, but were prevented by police.
