After Easter’s joy, hard work goes on

Easter is a delight for Greeks. It signals the victory of light, the victory of life. Together with the Risen Christ, nature shines, people shine and the world comes together. The glory of nature in April is enough to open up our souls, to make us look up from the dull routine of life, to take in the blooming poppies and chamomile and fruit trees, reveling in the harmony of spring. But the spiritual uplifting and the Easter celebrations should not make us shy away from the problems of everyday life. These are difficult times for Greece. The crisis can be felt on economic, social and moral levels. There is a lot of work to be done. The government must take action to resurrect the national economy, expand the productive basis, restructure the state apparatus, bolster competitiveness and modernize institutions. People should not feel that their sacrifices are in vain. Political leaders must brave the political cost and convince voters that they have the will and the know-how to fulfill the promises they have made. Those who hold the fate of the country in their hands should prepare for some hard work.
