SCHOOLS AND FLAGS: Nicosia, 24 – The director of education (for the British colonial regime) has ordered the closure of primary schools that have raised Greek flags. More than 200 of Cyprus’s total of 470 primary schools are estimated to have been closed. AMERICAN AID: US Ambassador in Greece Mr Cavendish Cannon has officially informed the Greek government of his government’s desire to provide all possible form of assistance in repairing the damage caused by the spate of recent bad weather in the country. KARAMANLIS: Paris, 24 – In statements to the special correspondent of the French newspaper Le Figaro, Greek Prime Minister Mr Constantine Karamanlis said that (…) granting amnesty to political prisoners was not part of his immediate plans and that he did not intend to impose a dictatorship but to set up a strong and honest government. The Athens correspondent of Le Petit Parisien Libere accompanied its coverage of Mr Karamanlis’s statements with an interesting commentary on the Greece’s poor financial status (…) and the astounding contrast with the image presented by certain Greeks with enormous fortunes.
