A picture of decay

The recent destruction of historical monuments in the center of the Greek capital gives rise to feelings of sadness and anger.

The Greek state and authorities responsible for the protection of such monuments appear to be completely indifferent to the situation, which seems to be getting out of control in the city center. Another explanation for this growing problem might be that those in charge don’t know how to handle this kind of situation. As the time passes, however, the vandals and hooligans are simply becoming bolder and no one seems to be in any real position of power to put an end to their actions.

The picture of the Greek capital today is of a city in decay. For sure, a country that does not respect and cannot safeguard its own history is in no position to go very far. Anyone who believes that acts of vandalism are simply a matter of aesthetics is making a big mistake.
