Upsetting the balance

The government’s plan for electoral reform that foresees a simple system of proportional representation should not be allowed to pass through Parliament.

Such a change would undermine any prospect of political stability and elevate smaller parties into kingmakers, something that would be particularly harmful if these parties represent extreme views or are the product of powerful interests.

Such games are the last thing that Greece needs right now as it struggles to get back on an even keel.
