Lowering the bar

Maybe we’ve seen it all now, after the Education Ministry said it wants the state’s scholarship foundation, IKY, to give grants not just to top students – those who graduate with grades of 8.5/10 and up – but also to those who succeed in graduating with lower scores ranging from 6.5 to 8.4.

This is a decision that completely undermines the notion of excellence and pushes the bar lower.

The reasoning behind the amendment – that not enough candidates meet the current criteria – that was submitted to Parliament is also a complete joke, which makes us wonder what they’ll come up with next.
