Signs of maturity
Friday’s deal with Chinese shipping giant Cosco for the sale of Piraeus Port Authority was an extremely positive development and one of those rare occasions when the government appears to have chosen to see through an agreement.
The fact that past statements against the sale by SYRIZA and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras himself were not carried through is also a good development.
A third positive thing about the deal is that the prime minister bypassed the minister in charge, who has made his opposition to privatizations all too apparent.
All together, these are signs of a painful and very slow process of maturation.
