A dangerous combination
The combination of the government’s ideological fixations and managerial ineptitude are now more than apparent and are doing a great deal of harm to the country. With few exceptions, its ministers are making no progress whatsoever either because they can’t or because they won’t.
The current review by the country’s creditors may come to a close, but only because our partners don’t want to see Greece plunged into even more instability. They are even turning a blind eye to phenomena that would have enraged them not so long ago just to keep things rolling.
The government’s inefficiency in key areas, however, such as in the management of the refugee crisis and boosting growth, is keeping Greece in the middle of the storm and even if the review goes well it will be a long time before it becomes a country that welcomes business and investment.
In the meantime, Greece is also becoming a subsidized “warehouse” for refugees and migrants.
Surely the people deserve something better.
