Unprecedented attack
Everything has its limits. The treatment on Wednesday by the Parliament speaker of a Bank of Greece report expressing concern about a possible Greek exit from the eurozone was unprecedented.
The governor of Greece’s central bank has the right, as well as the institutional duty, to express his opinion about the course of the country’s economy. Whether one agrees with that opinion or not is irrelevant. What matters is that the institution should be respected, as should its independence, because without it Greece would never have made it into the eurozone in the first place.
It appears, however, that we have reached a point where anyone who disagrees with any position adopted by the establishment is lambasted and subjected to a smear campaign.
Greece is moving away from the European Union and unfortunately the government does not seem to realize how fast this is happening or how dangerous it could be.
