A lack of robust leadership

Public opinion has so far displayed high levels of maturity, patience and tolerance, despite all the pain and anguish caused by the crisis.

While there is a great amount of anger out there, Greek citizens have not chosen the path of self-destruction, in other words the irrational use of violence in the name of protest.

Naturally, a certain section of the left and other extremists find this rather disappointing.

The issue, however, is that the Greek political system has not proved worthy of the public?s maturity. This is because it is still operating in exactly the same way as it did yesterday and the day before yesterday, still being held hostage by populists, unionists and party cadres.

This is where the danger lies. If our politicians continue behaving with this party selfishness, improvising both as the government and the main opposition, the danger of a large-scale explosion will become visible.

In this case, it will not be the people?s fault, as some claim, but the result of a complete lack of capable and robust leadership now and in general.
