A just system
There are reforms that do not bring any political gains – quite the opposite. The politician who attempts them knows in advance that he or she will only suffer political losses.
The vast majority of voters do not make their pick seeking to improve public finances. It’s their own pocket that matters. However, if we were to concentrate only on the narrow electoral horizon, the injustices and asymmetries of our tax system would never be corrected.
