Trash-laden isles

The failure to properly manage waste is one of the Greek state’s many enduring shortcomings.

The problem becomes urgent on the country’s islands however, when the influx of tourists puts an even greater strain on areas that are very ecologically sensitive and often lack basic trash collection and management services.

We already have ample evidence of the long-term damage such a situation wreaks on the environment; but it also threatens our tourism product in the here and now.
