Reading the electoral verdict

Sunday’s results in the runoff municipal and regional elections are not only open to a political interpretation on a bigger scale. In some elections, it is local concerns and the actual candidates that weigh more heavily.

However, it was the first electoral battle which showed that the government is not alone, not without opposition. That criticism can be voiced even when the opposition parties are in disarray.

If the government reads this verdict correctly, recognizing its limitations, it will only benefit – itself, but also the country. The first moderate reaction to the results points in this direction.
