A basic level of consensus

In a country where emotion often dominates over reason, hammering out foreign policy is always difficult.  

Things are made more difficult as social media fuel polarization, mistrust and anti-systemic thinking.

One must nevertheless be pragmatic, painful as that may be. And we must welcome the fact that the government’s decisive foreign policy on major issues has been matched by a basic level of consensus.
