No active fronts in Patra wildfire

The fire in the western port city of Patra that broke out near residential areas on Tuesday has been brought under control.

After two hours of firefighting efforts, the fire had no active fronts by around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Fire Service evacuated a public nursing home and a hospital as the fire approached the facilities.

Fueled by strong winds, the fire started on the outskirts of Aroi and spread through woodland and brush to Pagona, a neighboring suburb that includes the Patra municipal nursing home and Karamandeio Hospital.

The Fire Service also evacuated the Merimna care facility for disabled children and nearby homes as a precaution.
