St. Lawrence College

Rounded in 1980, St. Lawrence College operates from its campus in Koropi – an aesthetically designed and well-equipped school set within a peaceful 16- acre country environment. – The school provides a modern suite of science laboratories, a 400-seat open-air amphitheater, a large cultural hall, two libraries and adjoining reading rooms, state-of-the-art computer labs, all-weather tennis and basketball/volleyball courts, an 11-a-side soccer pitch, heated swimming pool (33×25 meters) and heated baby pool and an all-purpose, 1,100 sq.m. indoor gymnasium with seating for 250 spectators. – These extensive facilities complement the high academic standing of the school. Academic standards are high and examination results very good. In 28 years there have been 1,180 university placements. 529 – British universities (top three being Imperial 27, UCL 24, Warwick 19) 329 – American colleges in Greece 81 – USA 241 – Rest of the world [Oxbridge 23, Ivy League 17] – Our large and highly qualified staff allows for a staff-pupil ratio of 1:9. Thirty-five percent of the teacher body has been with the school for over 10 years and 14 percent for over 20 years. The school has well-established disciplinary procedures and prides itself on its high standards of behavior and courtesy. – There are approximately 40 extracurricular clubs and societies to which pupils may subscribe both in the junior and senior sections of the school. Drama, chess, forensics, environmental, debating and the newspaper club are particularly strong. The school also operates the International Award scheme for Young People (the old Duke of Edinburgh Award). It is an exciting self-development program equipping children with life skills which will make a difference to themselves, their communities and even the world. Inter alia, pupils undertake community service projects, conservation work, voluntary service in hospitals and specialized training in lifesaving, first aid and rescue services. – Sports and games are well catered for, with soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, mini-tennis, rugby and swimming being very popular. Drama is strong, with a number of productions put on each year. – The school has two resource rooms to help those pupils with learning disabilities. Health education is taught to grades 7 and 8, while languages on offer throughout the curriculum are Modern Greek, French, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic and Russian. The school is also noted for the quality of its work in music, offering classes in many instruments upon special request. Pupils sit for the Royal Schools of Music (Associated Board) exams. – The school provides transportation to all areas of Greater Athens and Piraeus. – A summer school program for boys and girls aged 3-14 years runs every year from late June until late July.
