Campion School

Campion IB results this year once again confirm Campion as a school that can bear comparison, not just with all other IB schools in Greece, but with leading international schools in Europe. Last year our top student, Peter Tyrakis, who is now studying Medicine at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, gained the top IB score of 45. Peter was recently awarded the Moses Holway scholarship for having finished this past year at the top of his class, an honor not easily achieved. This year our top student, Christina Haremi, who attended the school for 16 years, achieved the same score: We are thus the first IB school in Greece to achieve the top score in two consecutive years. Christina will be taking up her place at Magdalen College, Oxford, to study Law, following a busy summer undertaking work experience with the Norton Rose law firm in Greece, as well as representing Greece in the World Schools Debating Championships in Washington DC. Lydia Imirtziadis, who gained 41 points, will attend Keble College, Oxford, to study Physiological Sciences. Elsewhere, a third of the graduating class were accepted into their first choice of university, including Christos Kyprianides, who gained 39 points and will study History and Politics at Warwick. Maya Sacre and Natalie Georgoulopoulos, who both achieved 36 points, will study Psychology at St Andrews and Southampton respectively. Also scoring 36 points were Nadia Tottman, who will be taking up her place at Lancaster to study Economics and Politics, and Daphne Antonaros, who will follow an Art and Design foundation course at University College for the Creative Arts. Giorgos Hoholis, who began his Campion career in the creche at Halandri, attained a 35 and will study Mathematics at Sussex. Though the overwhelming majority of our pupils will be going to Britain to study, we also send some students to leading universities in North America. This year, for example, Alkis Downward will attend Georgetown University and Rania Kanaan will take up her place at the University of Toronto. The excellent achievements of Campion students often continue into their university years. Two graduates of 2005, Cassie Lewis and Peter Levchenko, finished their degrees this year with First Class Honors; Peter was also awarded the Governors’ Prize for the best overall result in his BEng Computing class at Imperial College. Arianna Psychas, also a 2005 graduate, has just finished her BA at the University of Manchester. Arianna finished first in the Department of Physiology and eighth in the Faculty of Biomedicine. Alexander Hamilton (Houliarakis) (2002) has just completed an MBA at the London School of Economics and will embark on a DPhil at Oxford. He is also working as an external consultant for the World Bank. All of these alumni, and many more, have utilized their education at Campion as a solid foundation for enduring accomplishments.
