Children enjoy a ride on the merry-go-round at a playground in Thessaloniki yesterday. The new school year is due to start tomorrow, with teachers complaining that there are more than 5,000 positions that need be filled. Problems are expected at state nursery schools in densely populated areas of Attica, as the government has said it will not allow private kindergartens that double as schools for older children to operate without a license.
