Turkish Cypriots looking into 1974 disappearance of 5-year-old boy Authorities in the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus reportedly say they have information about Christakis Georgiou, a Greek Cypriot who has been missing since Turkey invaded the island in 1974 when he was 5. Turkish-Cypriot authorities have some details about Georgiou and are investigating further, the Athens News Agency quoted spokesman Hasan Ercakica as saying. On Sunday the Cypriot daily Politis said Turkish army documents indicate the child was alive in Turkey nine months after he disappeared. Cypriot Foreign Minister Giorgos Lillikas yesterday condemned Ankara for dragging its feet in tracing hundreds of Cypriots missing since 1974. LOVER’S REVENGE Man posts sex video on Internet A 33-year-old man has been arrested in Athens for allegedly posting a video on the Internet of him having sex with his ex-girlfriend, police said. The unnamed suspect was caught after the woman filed a complaint with the police. Officers raided the man’s house on Tuesday and seized his computers. They said this was the 34th case of men posting indecent images of their ex-lovers on the Internet over the last six months. Farmers relent Protesting farmers from central Greece yesterday decided to suspend their protest action after just three days due to poor turnout, partly provoked by police barring access to the road junction at Tempe, which farmers had intended to block. Farmers from Lamia are due to visit Athens today to deliver a petition bearing their demands to Parliament. Water bills The Athens Water and Sewage Company (EYDAP) said yesterday that thousands of bills issued since the beginning of February have incorrect charges. EYDAP said that a new pricing system came into effect on February 1 but some customers have been charged at the new rate before this date. EYDAP said it would credit any incorrect charges on customers’ next bills. Party time Independent MP Stelios Papathemelis attempted yesterday to launch for a second time a new political party, Democratic Revival, which he will lead. Papathemelis, a former public order minister under a PASOK government, said he might try to lure former members of the Socialist party to his party. The MP, who was elected on a New Democracy ticket, first launched his party in December 2003. Fast track The laying of new stretch of railway track in central Greece, which will cut the journey time between Athens and Thessaloniki by half an hour, will be completed in the next four years, Transport Minister Michalis Liapis said yesterday.
