Bus accident leaves 15 injured, one in custody

A 71-year-old driver was arrested in Halkidiki, northern Greece, yesterday morning after he allegedly caused a KTEL intercity bus to swerve and crash into two trees which resulted in 15 people being injured, two of them seriously. The unnamed driver allegedly slammed into a car that had stopped at a junction and pushed it into the path of the oncoming bus. The KTEL driver swerved off the road to avoid the cars and the bus eventually came to a stop when it became lodged between the two trees, according to police. The bus was carrying 22 passengers from Ouranoupolis in Halkidiki to Thessaloniki. Those injured were taken to three local hospitals. Local police said it was a «miracle» that nobody had been killed and praised the bus driver for his quick reactions.
