Record number of criminal acts in November
The Attica Security Department’s report for 2006 shows that November was the worst month for crime, with a 2.2 percent rise in the number of thefts and burglaries – the goal was a 5 percent reduction. Only 20.7 percent of these were solved, although this was an improvement on the 2005 figure of just 15.9 percent, but short of the goal of 22 percent. There was a 1.1 percent rise in the number of robberies, where the goal had been a 10 percent reduction. Just over 27 percent were solved, way below the previous year’s rate of 69.1 percent and short of the goal of 30 percent. Vehicle thefts increased by 31.3 percent; 43.4 percent of these were solved compared to 49.2 percent the previous year; the goal last year had been a 55 percent recovery rate. The last quarter of 2006 saw the largest number of vehicle thefts of the past seven years.
